German Parliamentary Elections 2005: cine plus to provide the technical
equipment and organisational facilities for international TV election reporting
on behalf of Eurovision
Berlin, 12 September 2005 / cine plus, one of the biggest media service
providers in Germany, will be providing the technical infrastructure for
international TV reporting on behalf of Eurovision at the German parliamentary
elections, 2005. 30 to 40 international TV stations will use the services of the
International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) in the Paul Löbe Haus, Berlin.
The IBC has 14 edit suites and 40 newsrooms along with all the necessary
telecommunications equipment, live positions and satellite uplinks – all
covering a total of about 1000 square metres. All signals, including those from
the linked party headquarters, come together at the IBC's central digital
control room. A special multiplex procedure makes it possible to transmit them
to the satellites in parallel via 18 programme outputs using three SNG vehicles.
The signals will be transmitted from the party headquarters to the Paul Löbe
Haus using analogue and digital Canobeam lasers provided by Eurovision. "The
advantage over point-to-point radio links is that with the digital Canobeam you
can send up to six bi-directional signals at the same time," stresses Earny
Thiemann, manager of cine plus News Service. The Canobeam has up to 270 Mbit/s
of bandwidth and is individually scalable. "We are especially pleased to be able
to offer these special systems, particularly since there are not many available
in Europe," says Thiemann.
In addition to handling the technical and organisational side, cine plus is also
providing the TV stations and their correspondents with 25 camera teams.
Altogether, more than 50 camera sets and a staff of 170 will be deployed.
At the 2005 general election in Germany, cine plus News Service is not only
Eurovision's technical service provider, it is also supporting other TV stations
such as Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) and ARTE with their production planning and
implementation.
