The documentary follows the life of actress and politician Melina Mercouri in
Greece and Paris. When the military junta seized power in Greece in the late
1960s, Mercouri fought for the liberty of her homeland from her exile. The
ruling junta revoked her citizenship and confiscated her property, and the
Orthodox Church wanted to excommunicate her. After the military dictatorship
came to an end in 1974, Melina returned to her homeland and stood as a socialist
candidate for Piraeus in the elections. She became Minister of Culture and
worked passionately for her country until she died of lung cancer in 1994. The
documentary shows the many faces of Melina Mercouri in pictures from her life
and film clips.
