Composer and pianist Abdullah Ibrahim fled into exile from the discriminating
racist policies of the South African apartheid regime in 1962. Even before the
review of the musician's years in Zurich and New York begins, director Ciro
Cappellari tries to explain that exile is not only a geographic issue, but must
also be seen as a state of mind.
Even after a person's return from exile, the alienation from their homeland can
only be reduced step by step, day by day. Apart from exploring the topic of
exile, the documentation also introduces the viewer to Ibrahim's music.
