A cinematic meditation, "Into Great Silence" centers on the
monastery of the GRANDE CHARTREUSE, motherhouse of the legendary
carthusian order in the french Alps. A monastery renowned to be
among the strictest in the world. This will be the first film ever
about life inside the Grande Chartreuse. 15 years after his first
encounter with the present General Prior of the order, Philip
Gröning was granted the unique permission to share their lives and
to shoot a film on the life of the monks living in silence.
